Partnering with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities to Strengthen Inclusion

A group of adults pose in two rows (standing and seated) in front of a one-level building outside. One person in front has forearm crutches. The sky is clear.

IDP is excited to hold a panel discussion alongside USAID/Malawi, USAID/Nepal, Malawi Union of the Blind to talk about how partnering with organizations of persons with disabilities is essential to support inclusive development at the USAID Global Education Conference in Washington, DC.

Join us on April 15th  at 11:15 am as we discuss findings from the  Multi-Country Study on Inclusive Education and how it has informed the USAID-funded Next Generation Early Grade Learning Activity in Malawi being implemented by Chemonics International and is shaping collaborating with the government and other donor-funded activities in Nepal!

This panel discussion will explore USAID Missions and implementing partners’ efforts to partner with organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) to strengthen disability inclusion within activities at all education levels. The session will include short presentations using findings and lessons from the Multi-Country Study on Inclusive Education and Malawi Next Generation Early Grade Learning Activity and insights from the USAID/Nepal and USAID/Malawi offices on engaging OPDs in development activities. Following the panel, audience members will be encouraged to ask questions, share experiences, and strategize actions for inclusive and equitable practices that leverage the lived experience of OPD members and honor USAID’s commitment to localization. Our presenters are:

  • Ashley Stone, IDP
  • Prakash Das, United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Nepal
  • Bryan Dywer, USAID/Malawi
  • Augustine Kanyendula, IDP, representing USAID Next Generation Early Grade Learning Activity
  • Stuart Chauluka, Malawi Union for the Blind
