Ethiopia:
National Survey on Persons with Disabilities

Donor: UNICEF
Timeframe: April 2024 – December 2025
Disability inclusion data in Ethiopia has been limited, fragmented, and heavily influenced by external factors. To address this, Inclusive Development Partners (IDP), in collaboration with the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) in Ethiopia, is conducting UNICEF-funded National Survey on Persons with Disabilities in Ethiopia to analyse the situation of children and individuals with disabilities nationwide. This is the first comprehensive study of its kind in Ethiopia, and developing disability research within the country is crucial for improving the relevance and use of disability data. The collected survey data will be used to formulate targeted recommendations for policy and practice enhancements across various systems and sectors
Project Highlights:
- Provide data to develop recommendations for policy and practice improvements across various systems and sectors.
- Support local research groups to enhance local interest and capacity in conducting disability and vulnerability research.
- Identify and address critical issues, gaps, and barriers faced by persons with disabilities, their families, and caretakers.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the prevalence, nature, and circumstances of people living with disabilities in Ethiopia.
- Foster a more inclusive and equitable society by identifying areas for improvement in existing social policies, legislation, and resources for persons with disabilities.
